Spring on the Oregon Coast, 2021

With the start of spring on March 1st it was time to go in search of proof. It seemed like the Oregon coast was a likely destination, and we were right. Flowers were blooming once we hit the Willamette Valley, trees were in full bloom, and even the beautiful gorse plants were lit up with flowers when we reached the coast. Sure signs of spring.

Searching for Sunstones, 2020

As signs of spring continue to show themselves in our neck of the woods we headed to Oregon’s Outback in search of Oregon’s state gem, the sunstone. The BLM has set aside an area for public collecting, and they litter the ground there, waiting to be picked.

We made an overnight stop at Anna Reservoir, the coyotes sang us to sleep and the blackbirds woke us and got us moving.

Glass Buttes, 2020

I guess three years has somehow passed since our last trip to Glass Buttes. It seems like yesterday. How time flies. As meteorological spring started on March 1 (astronomical spring is right around the corner) it was high time to get the camper on the truck and get out on our first trip, and Glass Buttes seemed like as good a spot as any for an inaugural 2020 trip.

We arrived as it was getting dark on Friday but found a nice quiet spot and settled in for the night. It wasn’t long until the coyotes sang a welcome. We woke up to fresh snow on Saturday just as you would expect from spring weather. There were also some sagebrush buttercups blooming.
