Trinity River, 2018

Sometimes life gets busy.  Well, maybe it is busy more than it isn’t.  Anyhow, it leaves you wondering how you really get away from it all on what could be a hectic 3 day (Memorial Day) weekend.  Are you going to end up “getting away from it all” with 10,000 of your closest friends at the nearest lake?  Or maybe just stay home and avoid the crowds?  Or is there a place you can go, float over 40 miles of river and have your pick of campsites, and hardly see a soul?  Why yes, there is such a place.

 

There are occasions where you might ask if you should just stay home.  In those times I usually am reminded of one of my favorite passages by John Muir.

Southeast Alaska, 2018, Part 4

I guess time runs short when you are having fun.  Our last (non-travel) day in Southeast Alaska had already rolled around.  It was another beauty of a day.  Bluebird skies, calm as can be and perfect temperatures.  Given all that we decided to head out into the ocean again to see some sights.  We made the run out Icy Strait and Cross Sound and it was pretty much glass with a few swirling currents.

Southeast Alaska, 2018, Part 3

After a day on the water it was time to take a hike.  The only trail on the map of the island was to a lake and that looked like as good a destination as any.  The first half of the hike followed the rocky beach before we headed inland and upwards.
